Love this! It's perfectly balanced, and has such gorgeous tones and highlights. Really beautiful. :)

Location
This photo was taken in a small studio at a local college in my home town, Waterloo Iowa.Time
I think this was shot sometime in the early morning or afternoon.? My biggest concern was finding a place that really didn't offer any light what so ever.Lighting
I used a flashlight with a customized little soft box I had made for it, I got the box from and old roll of EPSON paper from the school. I knew just having a bare bulb flashlight would have been too harsh, so I needed to bring in down a few stops to soften it up a bit. The hardest part was getting the exposure count correct, because if you spent too much time in one area it would throw off the whole thing.Equipment
This was shot using a 5d Mark II with a 16-35 lens, on tripod. Since it was a long exposure I needed to be sure the camera was locked down, so I also put a sand bag on it, as little movement as possible!Inspiration
I wanted to try and create something that lent itself to fine art photography, as well as creating something that was simple and technically sound. At the time, I was just starting to make the shift from film to digital so making an exposure that still had some aspects of how it would have been shot if using film was just fun to me. Rather than the alternative, which would have been to rig lighting, There is a certain intimacy that goes into the work you produce when you really have to be conscious of what you're doing, like drawing or painting. The model is also my girlfriend, haha!Editing
Pretty basic curve adjustments and minor skin retouching, But for the most part I wanted to maintain as much of her natural look as possible. In my camera bag
I use a 5D Mark III now with all prime lenses.Feedback
FAIL! Fail as much as possible, because its only through your failures in shooting that will help you learn and get better. I had an instructor that once told me it was important to learn the basic rules of photography so that we can break them properly, through that knowledge you will find your style.
