This photo was taken at the Franklin Park Conservitory in Columbus, Ohio on a recent vacation so I was capturing anything that caught my eye.Time
I love the way this shot turned out. With all the sun coming through the glass roof in the afternoon of the observatory really made the colors pop. A cloudy day and those colors would look like they did.Lighting
Lighting was perfect. Bright sun light. The available light really enhanced the bright colors and gave shape with the shadowsEquipment
As I was traveling lite, I did not have my usual Nikon equipment with me. I had just packed my Nikon P510. This is an amazing camera for the size. Manual controls on point and shoot are great. Shot specs: F3, 1/30, 4mm, 125ISO, no flashInspiration
I see inspiration all around to take photo's this stuck me because of not only the color, but the fact that it was overhead acting as a "sunroof" in the Conservitory. The shapes and intricate patterns played very well together. Have I mentioned that this is glass? Absolutely a great work of art that I had to capture and share.Editing
As I am not a big fan of post processing, I did nothing to this photo. I live by the belief to capture the image you want through the lens of your camera. Post production can be good in some cases, but not here. Too much post processing can make a natural photograph look artificial.In my camera bag
My little P510 is always travel in the backpack along side it's big brothers a Nikon D40x(oldie but a goodie) and Nikon D7100. My Nikon 24-85 F/2.8 is usually attached to my 7100 as it gives a great range for landscapes and concert photography. Also in the bag are a 18-300 F/3.5 which pretty much stays on the D40x. Rounding out the gear are a : Nikon 85mm F/1.8, Nikon 70-300 F/4.5, Nikon 50mm F/1.4, Nikon SB700. Hoya filters, Manfrotto tripod, Manfrotto, monopod and a Manfrotto backpack.Feedback
My advice? Look around and always carry a camera. If you don't have the most expensive or best equipment with you, it doesn't matter, the camera only takes the photo, you see it and composed it. There is always something to photograph and don't always look ahead, look up. A world of color is above your head. Be patient, sometimes you need to wait for that right light to come in.
