I took this photo along Interstate 90 in South Dakota somewhere between Sioux Falls and Rapid City.Time
I took this photo around 8 in the morning. I was on vacation with my wife and I had already taken pictures of the sunrise and had gotten back on the road when the curves of the corn field and the dark clouds caught my attention. I turned around and went back and set my tripod up to get the shot.Lighting

I used a Canon EOS 7D, a Sigma 1.4-5.6 10-20mm DC HSM lens. I used a Tri-Pod.Inspiration
I was on vacation driving with my wife, we were on our way to meet her parents and our children at Mt. Rushmore. Our children rode with their grandparents because they don't like riding on long trips in my Jeep. We had taken a different route so I could stop and photograph the Badlands in South Dakota. The scene just caught my eye, the dark clouds, the sun behind the clouds, and the lines of the corn fields just caught my attention. As I was driving by I saw the scene and I knew I had to take the picture.Editing
Yes, this image is a High Dynamic Range photo. I took 3 exposures. -1,0,+1. I combined the Images into a HDR Image and then I tone mapped it using Photomatix Pro.In my camera bag
Since I took this picture I have added Equipment. I know use a Canon 5D Mark III, a Canon 24-70 mm 2.8, a Canon 70-200 mm 2.8, Sigma 1.4-5.6 10-20mm DC HSM, a Canon 85mm 1.8 and I almost always have a tri-pod.Feedback
To quote Joseph Campbell "Follow your bliss". Shoot what you love and follow your gut. Often times I look at my photos after I take them to figure out what it is about the photo that captured my attention in the first place. But when I'm out taking pictures its just a feeling. Its a flash in my mind and I have to capture the scene. I know it, just like I know my name. Once I get the image on the computer sometimes I was successful in capturing the scene I saw in my mind and sometimes I was not. Even when I was not successful capturing the scene I never question the image I saw in my mind, just my ability to capture it.
