Location
This image was taken in a drive way near my home in Washingtonville, Ohio. We had using a cornfield that belonged to a friend of the client and the driveway next to it was just so perfect, I had to use it as well.Time
I took this image shortly after 5PM. When I work with high school seniors, I always try to start at five or six and we work together for several hours.Lighting
This location had naturally beautiful lighting. The trees let in the perfect amount of sun.Equipment
This image was shot with my cannon EOS Rebel T3 and an 18-55mm lens. It is not the most expensive camera I have, but I do always carry it with me.Inspiration
This high school senior was amazing to work with. She had been in beauty pageants and had done some modeling, so I really wanted to showcase her confidence. When I saw this long driveway with the trees around it, I knew putting her in the middle would perfectly frame her. I also like using a pathway for high school seniors to symbolize the fact that they are finishing one journey and starting another one.Editing
I did post processing for this image in Photoshop CC. The contrast on her dress looked great in color, but I knew it would also be beautiful in black and white. I love black and white images. First I gave the background a slight blur, then when I turned it black and white, I went into each color individually and selected to increase the darker colors so that they stood out.In my camera bag
I do not use tons of equipment. I carry both the cannon Rebel T3 and my Nikon D5300. I know most photographers prefer one brand, but I will buy anything I enjoy using. For the Cannon I carry a Cannon 18-55mm lens and a Cannon 75-300mm lens. For the Nikon I just carry a Nikkor 18-55mm lens. I also carry Targus flash.Feedback
The best advice I have is to be flexible and to never stop looking for locations to shoot. We had no plans of shooting in this location beforehand. We were set up in a corn field. This drive way just happened to be on the same property. Also, don’t be afraid to try different angles and positions in the same general area. Even though I ended up deciding I wanted to have her standing and facing me head on, we tried a bunch of different things to fully take advantage of the location.
