Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken by a health center in south eastern Kansas.

Time

It was after a very long day at work of just sitting around, and I walked outside, and there was a beautiful sunset going on. Was definitely a happy ending.

Lighting

I took a couple pictures of the sunset from different places. Then when I saw how there was an opening like a window with the trees angled just so with the wheat. I chose that as my spot. But then I had to choose what I wanted to show in the picture, just the sunset or the wheat. The lighting off the wheat made it shimmer with gold and I really liked it.

Equipment

For this picture I used a Kodak Easyshare C643 Zoom Digital Camera. I didn't use my reflector or use flash.

Inspiration

It was a happy moment for me like I said I was done with work, and I was finally stretching my legs. But sunsets are always something I love, I usually pay close attention to the colors, the blues, the purples, pinks, oranges. But this picture was just I came upon it, it just was there. I was happy.

Editing

I did not do any post processing. The only thing I did when I uploaded it was to resize the picture to make it smaller, so the sun wasn’t what you focused on. I wanted the whole picture to say something.

In my camera bag

The camera that I use is Canon PowerShot ELPH 330 HS Black. The only other thing I carry in my bag is a makeshift sunlight reflector using cardboard, a white piece of paper, and aluminum. I usually only use it for portraits.

Feedback

I say just go about your day and do your own thing. I often just stumble across moments that are beautiful with nature just shining at its best. Make sure you have your camera on you always, you really never know when something will catch your eye that you want to capture. Also make sure you camera is completely charged, many times I have seen a perfect moment, only to realize that my camera was dead or had no room on my memory card. So when those moments do come, because they will, you will be prepared. Then for me, it’s just more of you either find the perfect angle and setting or you don’t. Then you learn from that for your next moment.
