Location
This image was taken at Bodie Ghost Town in Bodie, California.Time
This image was actually taken at noon. Normally not the best time to photograph a scene, but that is not the case when shooting an infrared camera.Lighting
The lighting that day kept fluctuating between sunny and partially overcast. I wasn't too concerned about shooting this scene at noon since I was shooting an infrared camera.Equipment
I shot this was a Fuji X-T1 that had been converted to 720nm infrared by Kolari Vision of New Jersey. The lens was the superb Fujinon 14mm, which is equivalent to a 21mm on a full frame camera. This was a 5 exposure HDR using these settings: F8 at ISO 400. The unit was on a Calumet carbon-fiber tripod and an Arca-Swiss B1 bullhead.Inspiration
Everything in this ghost town is worth photographing. I knew instantly I wanted to photograph this picture of the Lottie Johl house when I saw the old wheel barrow in front. I knew that would make for a good composition to place it in the lower third of the frame.Editing
The basic processing on this image was simply combining the 5 exposures together into 1, which I did using Nik HDR Efex Pro 2. For all my current photography, I am using the new Aurora HDR.In my camera bag
I am using a Fuji X-T1 system that includes a few bodies and an infrared body, plus several Fujinon lenses and one Samyang fisheye.Feedback
Just go there! If you have never been to Bodie Ghost Town, you need to. This is an amazing place and you could easily spend a few days here if you want to do it justice. I definitely plan on going back. Watch the weather reports for this area. It is best to go a day with clouds. During the winter the road to Bodie is often closed due to heavy snowfall.
