Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a light box with a couple of 50 watt lamps hanging off the side.

Time

My favorite time for using the light box is in the evening when the room is dark and I have total control of the lighting.

Lighting

The lighting is the secret, for me anyway, the challenge and the fun is getting that right glow on my subject by moving the lamps in so many directions that eventually I find that perfect spot to show off the piece.

Equipment

For this photo I used a Sony DSC-N2 camera on a table tripod with no flash in auto mode.

Inspiration

I am an avid collector of rocks and minerals and half the fun of collecting is the photo session the that follows.

Editing

My post-processing would be to sharpen and slightly darken this photo, the color is exact to the piece.

In my camera bag

I've had so many cameras like so many of you but I prefer a small camera for convenience, right now I'm using a Samsung EK-GC200

Feedback

So I would recommend using a light box for this kind of work, small pieces and macro work, I bought my light box on line for about $40 it came with black, red white and blue back drops and two 50 watt lamps and a small table tripod for a small camera, I used this set up for a lot of my pic's I've posted, and what's nice is it folds away the size of a brief case when your done, there is a pic in my gallery of the set up I use, get one you'll like it!
