Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was shot off a fishing pier on Lake Harriet. It was driving around on my 30th birthday, the weather started to turn, and I just had to stop and shoot this!

Time

Around 3:00pm

Lighting

Since the storm was rolling in over the lake, there were a lot of great shadows shaping everything. The deck was perfectly slick, allowing for a great reflection.

Equipment

I shot this with a Nikon D90, and a Vanguard Alta Tripod.

Inspiration

I was feeling the normal "what am I doing with my life" that one feels as each year passes. The weather fit my mood, and I'm naturally drawn to water. It was the perfect representation of the day.

Editing

I used Lightroom for all post-processing of this image. Nothing too spectacular: Lens Distortion Correction, Slight Crop, Sharpen, Noise Reduction, and a little pushing and pulling to bring out highlights.

In my camera bag

I generally have my camera, a remote shutter release, tripod, wide zoom (18-105 or 28-105), a prime or 2, and some filters (Circular Polarizer, ND, and a sheet of welding glass).

Feedback

Never pass a scene by with the hopes of "coming back to get it later". You may miss out on a shot that moves you to the core!
