Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the lounge of Ocean Manor Hotel & Beach Resort.

Time

The photo was taken in the evening.

Lighting

This was the first paid shoot done for a recording artist.

Equipment

This was shot with my Nikon L820. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

The piano in the lounge was definitely an inspiration for this shot. It took me back to those times of watching the songstress sing from top of the piano while the pianist played. After watching her performance, I definitely felt it would be a good look for her.

Editing

Definitely wanted to give it shot a more vintage look. So in the editing process I decided to sharpen the image, adding some contrast and other twists.

In my camera bag

I regularly carry my Nikon L820, some extra batteries and an external LED light.

Feedback

My best advice for capturing something similar to this, would be to utilize the scene/backdrop you have to work with. Do not try to over crowd the shot, allow space for the artist to naturally become comfortable with the space and time you have created.
