I took this photo at my house. It was just another for-fun photo shoot that turned into something phenomenal!Time
I was lucky enough to be snowed in that day. Normally I have to go into work in inclement weather, but with 10 inches of snow on the ground from the storm the night before, my place of employment did not attempt to open for business. It was mid-afternoon when I took my snowball-obsessed Australian Shepherd out for a little playtime, camera in hand. She thoroughly enjoys having snow thrown at her, so I took the opportunity to practice my tossing-and-shooting multitasking skills. This was definitely a lucky shot.Lighting
I am a sucker for vibrant color, and the sky and snow gave me what I crave in a photo. I am not a fan of shooting at this time of day, but I lucked out with no terrible shadows.Equipment
I used my Canon T3i, 18-55mm lens, lens hood, and UV filter.Inspiration
My Australian Shepherd's love of snow and snowballs inspired me to take this photo. I think Hope was a Malamute in her past life. She will play in the snow all day long, which gives me plenty of time to experiment with camera settings and snap away.Editing
There was some overexposure in the photo, so I had to do some adjusting in Lightroom. I do not do a whole lot of editing yet, just enough to bring out detail in under/overexposed images. Lightroom has proved to be quite a challenge to learn...and I absolutely learn something new every time I use it!In my camera bag
Canon T3i body. 18-55mm lens. A 55-250mm lens. UV and Polarizing filters. Altura flash. Lens cleaning stuff and, of course, extra batteries. It's a small collection, but it continues to grow!Feedback
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. It really helps to have an extra set of hands for a photo like this. It is much easier to focus on your shot when you are not trying to throw something at the same time.
