Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken on a walk in my neighborhood. Many stores have flowers for sale outside their door.

Time

This was taken in Midday.

Lighting

The flowers were in shade but the main flower had the sunlight shining on its petals.

Equipment

I had just begun to re-explore film and this was one of the first photos I took, late summer 2014. I used a Canon Eos 3, 24-70 F4 lens, Tri-X film rated at 400ISO

Inspiration

I enjoy photographing flowers especially sunflowers, so I am always looking at them for their form and beauty and as a possible subject of a photograph.

Editing

I developed and scanned the film myself and did post-processing in PhotoShop. I did one levels adjustment for overall contrast on my scan, which was flat, and a localized levels adjustment to brighten the petals of the main flower.

In my camera bag

I like to go out shooting with a minimal amount of equipment, normally a body, film or digital, my 24-70 lens and one other lens, usually my 85mm. Occasionally I bring a tripod depending on the weather and light. Most of my photos are hand held.

Feedback

I am always interested in and aware of my surroundings, even if I have walked on a block before. Things change, I might find a subject interesting the second time I see it, the light might have changed, etc.
