This photo was shot on a little lake called Beaver Lake off the Tenn-Tom waterway near Fulton Mississippi, the Tenn-Tom waterway was made to provide barges faster travel north once coming the Mississippi RiverTime
I'd rather shoot at late evening or early but I seldom get the chance so I have to use various post processing to bring out highlights in an otherwise flat lighting, I shot this around 9:00 a.m. so the sun was up pretty good. I picked this spot because it always seems to give great reflections.Lighting
I used a polarizing filter to really bring out the reflections. I usually shoot in raw, then I make 3 0r 4 exposures from the raw converted to tiff, I then process them as hdr with the aim of not overdoing the hdr effect. When I turned the polarizer and it literally jumped out at me. After processing as hdr I import the image to Gimp, and make different adjustments to color and saturation as well.Equipment
Pentax K-x, 18-55mm kit zoom, circular polarizer, tripod and remote shutter releaseInspiration
I just love water scenes and especially ones with great reflectionsEditing

It is possible to get good daytime photos but it may require more post processing, because of flat lighting, also try to compose with vanishing points and look for places protected from wind so you get those great reflections. This shot would have probably been even better with great lighting to start but post processing can help you bring out more detail.
