Behind The Lens

Location

Shubenacadie Wild Life Park

Time

I decided that it would be a good day to head to the wild life park because it wasn't too hot in the late afternoon so the animals wouldn't all be sleeping.

Lighting

There was just enough tree cover to control the afternoon sun, since it was later in the afternoon the light wasn't terribly harsh.

Equipment

I was armed with a Canon Rebel t3i and my 70-200 lens and made sure the lens hood was on

Inspiration

The grace of this beautiful buck in the golden field with the velvet on his antlers was too compelling to not stop and line him in my sights

Editing

I used a few pretty preset brushes in Lightroom to make my subject really stand out from the background and to enhance the autumn tones.

In my camera bag

I always make sure that my macro lens and speed light are in my bag with an extra battery and sd card just in case since I'm likely to get sidetracked by flowers when I'm out.

Feedback

The biggest thing I like in my images is when possible the subject or scene reads from left to right so the viewer naturally scans across the entire image and try not to have everything on the same plane so that the image doesn't appear flat.
