Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Granville Island, Vancouver BC

Time

It was one of the ordinary days at 6 in the evening with freezing temperature. I forgot my gloves home, so when I was trying to make this shot could barely feel my hands while holding camera, had to breath hard to return sensitivity to fingers.

Lighting

The lighting was not perfect because of the setting sun and dimmed light.

Equipment

This was shot on Nikon D 7000 with Nikon 35mm.1.8G on it.

Inspiration

I like to do street photography, what most appealing in this procedure is that you can make shots of people in their natural environment , no fake smiles just "Raw Emotion"- that's how I call it. As for this picture first I made a couple of shots with man standing in the center of the frame. But then decided to concentrate on man's hands wearing dirty, old, cut-off gloves and scratched, worn out guitar with rope instead of fancy belt. Making an accent on all these features I was trying the viewer to feel the whole atmosphere of this scene, to have all those feelings of sorrow, grief and emotion that I had while making this capture.

Editing

Not so much post-processing that I did, just a little bit of sharpness, clarity and contrast.

In my camera bag

I have camera Nikon D 7000 and Nikon lenses: 35mm; 18-300mm; 85mm. For landscapes I like to use Tokina 11-16mm.

Feedback

While making shots of people on the street try to behave natural, smile , talk, be friendly and pay attention to what they're trying to tell you. Be nice and you'll be amazed at how one simple smile would be able to open hearts of absolute strangers. No matter what life is beautiful and full of pleasant surprises. Good luck!
