Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in Goosenecks State Park Utah. It is on the San Juan River north of Monument Valley. We were on our annual trip for my birthday on our way to Lake Powell for kayaking. On this trip we spent 10 days and saw the Painted Desert, Petrified forest, Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, Goosenecks State Park, Natural Bridges National Monument, Lake Powell in 2 different areas including Glen canyon dam, Capitol Reef National Park, Bryce Canyon, and many other areas in between. We take a trip every year for my birthday and I look forward to the next one.Time
This was taken about mid-day because we had camped overnight outside of Monument Valley and gone there for sunrise. We then toured the park and towed our camper out and headed north to Goosenecks.Lighting
unfortunately there was nothing special about the lighting and being midday it was the worse time for photography but as we were on a time schedule we had no choice.Equipment
This was taken hand held as is most of my landscape photography. I use a Canon EOS Rebel xti an efs 18-135 zoom lens. I used no filters or other equipment.Inspiration
This was one of the most amazing landscapes, many of these loops. I had never been here before and couldn't capture the whole thing in one frame. This shot though caught the character of the park better then any of the others. While we were there some kayakers were floating through and it really inspired me.Editing
I did no post processing this is right out of the camera. In my camera bag
My bag contains my camera the lens i used it this shot, plus a small lens that came with the camera that i only rarely use, a set of filters for shooting macro, a polarizing filter and i have a tripod too. I also now have a go pro hero that i strap to the front of my kayak and will find a way to use on our next trip too.Feedback
If i had this to do over again i would like to use a neutral density filter and tripod so i can do a long exposure. i think it would allow the sky to look more natural and maybe bring out more of the natural beauty of the area. I have never seen this park in any other shots then my own as it is not a real well known place and was really nice to be able to enjoy this by ourselves.
