This photo was taken in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico. I do not have a great deal of formal training but we do love to travel and see new places. Wherever we go I always walk around with one of my cameras to capture the sights.Time
This photo was taken at about 6am on the 14th of February 2014. When we travel to the Atlantic Coast I always get up at about 5am to take pictures to the coast at sunrise. I find that in the early morning there is a lot to see and few distractions.Lighting
I wanted this image to look like a postcard. My goal was to capture a silhouette of the palm tree with the magnificent sunrise in the background. I took several shots and selected what I believed to be the best image.Equipment
This photo was shot with a Nikon D5200 and an 18-55mm lens. I did not use any other equipment.Inspiration
After walking the grounds at the resort we were staying at during the day, I saw this palm tree on the beach and thought that the area would be best captured in the morning when there was nobody around and the sunrise would provide for a beautiful backdrop.Editing
I did not do any post processing but played with the camera settings during several photos to so that I would have several images to select from.In my camera bag
When I am on holidays I pack my Nikon 5200 body. At the time I took this photo I would also bring an 18-55mm lens and a 70-300 zoom. Since that time I have acquired a Sigma 24-105mm lens as I found myself changing lenses frequently with only the other two options. I had been asked to take some wedding phots and found that the Sigma bridges the gap between the other two lenses.Feedback
I find that the best time to take photos is in the morning when there are few distractions and more wildlife. It is important to venture out every morning as every day provides for a variety of cloud formations and varied lighting conditions. It is important to get a good handle on your surroundings at all times of the day in order to visualize the landscape at the time of day you select for your final product. This way you can set up at your selected location to take a number of photos to later select the preferred one.
