It was a clear sunny day no clouds. I was down low as the sheep like any animal wanted to be up higher than me so he was standing up on a bench to catch his eyes. The tree behind us added just enough shade to keep the highlights. I did have to increase my ISO because he kept moving. I would suggest this type of location for any type of portrait shoot with minimal equipment.Equipment
I used my Camera: Canon EOS 60D,Aperture: f/11.0,ISO: 1250, Exposure: 1/320, on one knee, no flash or tripod.Inspiration
Everyone has something that creeps them out like my wife with spiders, or my brother with any type of bird, for me it's sheep. I am a people person, pride myself on being so and my secret is to look into a persons eyes. The eyes never lie even if it's an animal. It's not like I can look at you and know if you are a murderer but I do get a feeling of whether someone is good, bad or sometimes just indifferent. Sheep are among the few animals that do not have a round pupil and for that reason it creeps me out and makes me think they are up to something. I can not get a read on a sheep so I don't trust them. I wanted a good picture of his eyes so I could look at him at home as well and see if after time he would wear on me. I hate to say it but he still creeps me out. Glad everyone else loves him because I don't.Editing
I used standard Photoshop CS6 with standard touch ups. No filters or tricks on this one. It was October and the fall landscape was red, yellow and orange so I did shift the hue in the color adjustment towards the orange just a touch. In my camera bag
I have learned the hard way to travel light. If you find yourself in a location that required specific equipment then I put it on a to shoot list and go back prepared. Besides, I have found that in certain situations where an event or something out of the ordinary happens and I didn't have some extra flashes, filters, etcetera it forces me to think outside of the box by using creative lighting techniques with the available light and pushing my camera's limits. I have gotten some of my best photography this way and builds your confidence to know you can take on difficult situations if presented on the job. One camera, one flash and one light weight tripod is all you should ever need to pull off a decent reel.Feedback
I shot this because of my curiosity and inspiration to capture all things creepy. I have not made my mark yet like many other amazing photographers out there but I am a true believer that if you shoot what you love it will come through in your pictures. If it does not work the first time try, try and try again until you are happy with what you are creating. In this case it was all about his eyes for me so I went in with this objective and shot until I was happy. Cheers, Daniel Kerray
