This was a moment that took my breath away...as I sat on a log looking through the shots I'd taken on this hike, I heard water splashing nearby...I looked up only to see this majestic creature standing there looking at me...I literally stopped breathing, raised my camera and took the shot...hoping the settings were going to work!

Location
This photo was taken at Prairie Creek Lake near Selma, IN.Time
This was taken mid morning at the lake on a beautiful Autumn day.Lighting
The lighting at this time in the morning wasn't the best but I really didn't want to take my eyes off of him to make any adjustments...I just had to raise my camera and shoot...so settings? I was too excited to look!Equipment
I got this shot with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8.Inspiration
The water level at the lake was really low at this time due to a drought so I was able walk the shoreline that was usually under water. Maybe half way thru I sat down on a log to take a break & look thru my shots, when I heard water splashing to my right...I looked and saw a doe walking thru the water to the other side...those pics did not turn out due to the sun at that angle. I watched until she disappeared into the woods after crossing. I went back to looking at my pics when again I heard splashing to my right...this time, maybe 20 ft. away was this gorgeous buck in full rut just standing there looking at me...in that moment everything stopped..it was just the 2 of us and I slowly raised my camera to get some shots...again not wanting to take my eyes off of him I had no idea what my settings were. The doe on the other side started bellowing to him and so he went on across to her. I knew this was a once in a lifetime moment for me and happy at least some of my pics turned out.Editing
There wasn't much I could do with this due to the angle of the sun at the time...I sharpened it a bit and that was all.In my camera bag
No bag...just me & my camera & monopod!Feedback
Live in the moment...if it's an animal you better just shoot & hope! If you look away you could miss that moment between you & the animal. Sometimes the experience means more than the photo.
