Behind The Lens

Location

This photograph was taken during my first trip to Tasmania. I can't even begin to describe the beautiful and diverse landscapes. During the editing process, I was channelling a "Lord of the Rings" vibe.

Time

Middle of the day.

Lighting

I usually don't shoot in direct sunlight but on this particular day, I had no choice. I tried my best to find a shady spot away from the public and ended up taking the shot in under 5 minutes.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D600 with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. I also used a tripod and remote, as this was a self portrait.

Inspiration

It was quite a spontaneous shot. All week long I had been admiring the beautiful landscapes of Tasmania. Ultimately, my goal for the week was to capture and incorporate these landscapes in a series of self portraits.

Editing

Yes I did. I wanted to make the photograph much darker than it originally was. I also expanded the frame, which involves stitching together various photographs. I also played around with the tones of the photograph to create a more mysterious and dream like mood.

In my camera bag

In my camera bag, you'll find my Nikon D600, both a Sigma 35mm and 85mm f/1.4 lens, a remote, spare memory cards and a spare battery.

Feedback

I'd advise people to go out and explore new locations. Also, ensure you challenge yourself to shoot at a different angle. Stepping out of your comfort zone is really important.
