This was taken on a cloudy afternoon as the weather began to look increasingly ominous, as we walked around the Marina Lake at West Kirby I looked around and saw the skies were really beginning to darken I took a photo not actually realising I'd caught the beginning to the storm . I like the fact that the two people on the left give a real sense of scale and of how small and insignificant we can look when faced with the awesome power of nature!Lighting
It was dark so I bumped up the ISO and opened up the aperture. I managed to capture the light fading as the storm was about to start , you can even see rain spilling from the clouds in the distance which also add to the sense of drama!Equipment
Canon 6d with a Tameron 24-70mm Lens , I've since upgraded to Canon L series, but the Tameron served me very well and if you're on a budget you can get some lovely shots with that lensInspiration
To be honest it was such a dull day I'd given up hope of capturing anything ! This was literally a final shot as the lighting shifted, it was only when I got back home I realised it was a powerful image.Editing
I normally run landscapes through Lightroom or photoshop to tweak the lighting. In this case, I played with the curves to bring more the drama to the clouds and draw out the contrastIn my camera bag
Canon 6d, great for low light and 24-70 mm 2.8 L Series lens which is my real go to lens and does an amazing job in all situations. Also a wide angle L series lens 16- 35mm L series which is great for wide angle landscape shots. And some sandwiches. A mans gotta eat !Feedback
Keep looking and don't over think things, sometimes just being open to the possibilities is the best weapon you can have. Use your intuition and take the shot, it might not work out .. but an empty memory card will never give you great images. So take your camera with you everywhere , opportunities can arise even in the most familiar and everyday situations. Keep looking !
