I took this photo in my favourite place, its a hidden little area behind loads of houses in south yorkshire, its perfect it has shade and beautiful natural light pouring through the trees it has a natural arch walk way perfect to run around and snap away at curious toddlersTime
it was taken in autumn on a dull day so we were really lucky that aslong as it was still daylight the time didnt really matterLighting
the thing i always like to get in my pictures when i go here is a nice bokeh but this turned out better than expected all the autumn colour tonesEquipment
i used a nikon d3200 (iv now changed over to a canon) and a nikkor 1.8 50mm prime lens, no flash and waving a few leaves about to get harrys attentionInspiration
i didnt really know how the picture was going to go until i put it on the computer and i instantly knew what i would like to do his facial expression is just magical, i love catching a childs innocence and curiosity in a pictureEditing
I always shoot raw so i opened it straight into cs6, i use paint tool on a low coverage to even out skin tone, i added contrast, added sharpening to certain areas i ran a few pre-set actions to bring out all the oranges after all thats what autumn is all about, brushed off my subject, i brightened the greens and then ran the leaf overlay it was way to much so selectively erased 80% of them, fattened image blended the leaves and sharpened for printIn my camera bag
I am now using Canon d60 and ALWAYS have my 85mm 1.8 attached i love the sharpness and the background blur is perfect everytime i always have my bounce flash for when face shadows are unavoidable unless i use fill flash. Canon 50mm 1.8 my old faviourite and a lens i am still trying to master 55-250mm, i always have my reflectors clipped onto my bag but rarely take a tripod...i really must startFeedback
never pose a child or toddler...i love to chase them and distract them "oh wow what is that in the sky?" you get a lot more natural faces and poses and its much for fun for you both :) i once took my toddler on a dinosaur hunt we never found any sadly but we got some good pictures looking
