I really like this shot. The simplicity is awesome. The shapes you attained through the particular lighting scheme really make the photo stand out, and then the colors on the black background accentuate the shapes to perfection! Great!

Graceful beauty. Exquisite and creative lighting used here to define the gentle silhouettes. Nicely done :)

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken when I was a student in college at DMACC In Iowa, USA. I had an assisgnment for a studio project was using the schools studio.

Time

I dont recall the time of day due to to it being in the studio.

Lighting

I worked with the lighting for a long time to get it the way I wanted. I ended up putting the lighting right next to the wine glass and bottle so it was level with it.

Equipment

I was a poor college student at the time and couldn't afford the fancy camera that most of the rest of my class mates where carrying around, but it goes to show you that you don't have to have the fancy equiptment to produce something that is worth taking a extra look at. I did this shoot with a Canon Rebel XSI with a 18-55 lens.

Inspiration

My mother loves wine. She calls herself a wino, she was looking online for artwork to hang in her home and came across some beautiful wine pictures. It inspired me, if people are looking online to fill their homes with pictures of wine bottles why not use my assignment for school and create a piece that she will love. I've ended up selling many of them at a local country club!

Editing

I brought the lighting way down so that the main focus of the picture was the highlights of the glass and bottle. When I did that the red in the glass just popped and it was beautiful! I did a lot of cloning around the base of the glass to make it darker.

In my camera bag

Well since my college days my poor handy Rebel has seen better days, so I have upgraded. I'm still not fancy but I do well. I have a Canon 70D in my bag with my go to lens 18-200mm attached and ready to go. i Also always carry at 50mm prime lens and my off camera flash

Feedback

If you have something in your mind and you are trying to capture in trough your camera don't give up until its finished. I played with this for hours during the shoot and post process trying to decide what I liked best. MOVE YOUR LIGHTING.....that is the best advise that I can give to someone who would try and capture something like this. You have to be willing to move your lighting up and down then side to side a hundred times if its not perfect.
