Location
I took this photo on the southern end of Cozumel Island, Mexico.Time
Sunset. I was in my hotel room getting ready for dinner and saw the spectacular colors, grabbed my camera and headed down to the beach.Lighting
Spectacular reds, oranges, yellows as the sunset.Equipment
Canon 5D Mark III, 16-36 wide angle lens, hand held at 1/40 second.Inspiration
Saw the sun setting from my hotel balcony, grabbed my camera and went down to the beach. I saw this couple had pulled up lawn chairs for a romantic sunset show and knew it would be a great composition.Editing
I normally do minimal post-processing, usually in Lightroom. I will add a touch of clarity, contrast, vibrance, and make sure my horizon line is straight, finishing with a soft vignette. In my camera bag
When shooting landscape, I will carry my Canon 5D Mark III, UV Haze filter, Polarizing Filter, Neutral Density Filter, and my favorite landscape lens is my Canon 16-35mm. I always carry my 24-70 as my all around lens and then weight permitting, my 70-200.Feedback
At sunset the light can change dramatically within a short amount of time, be patient and stay the course. Try to get out before sunset and stay till after. Try different angles, perspectives, and work your composition. Always try to get the horizon line straight in camera, of course a tripod is best, but I rarely travel with one via air.
