Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a burnout competiton in Avalon Australia. I am a automotive photographer with a passion for cars and photography.

Time

This was shot just after lunch time, it was a blistering 36 degrees, the sun was so bright, I was waiting for the car to fill up the area with smoke, hoping for some shade, just as I set my settings, out popped the car from the cloud of blue smoke, looking at it now , the cloud of smoke the number plate, its just right.

Lighting

I always shoot on Manual, the sun comes and goes, it can be bright one second and dark the next from the clouds of smoke, tho I have been doing it for some years now and know what i am after, if you are just starting out, I would shoot in shutter Priority for something like burnouts.

Equipment

I shot this with my Canon 5D MK11 using my 200mm lens.

Inspiration

I knew the car was at this event, my goal was to capture a great front view shot.

Editing

The images has only been cropped and a slight darkness added to the smoke using lightroom.

In my camera bag

When doing car events, I always carry, my two 5Ds MK11, and three lenses, 16-35 wide, 18-70 and my fav of all the 200, I leave the tripod in the car but most times never use it.

Feedback

IF you are ever wanting to do a burnout show, make sure you have filters on your lenses, things fly from the tyres all the time also make sure you have, sun screen, hat, ear plugs. Be very alert of anything coming from the tyres, it is very dangerous, protect your gear at all times, I have had a few filters hit by stones, its cheaper to replace filters than glass.
