Location
This was taken on the Grand Mesa in southwest Colordao. There is a scenic drive from Grand Junction that takes you over the Mesa to Delta.Time
This was taken mid-morning. It was a little breezy so I had to be patient and wait for the water to smooth out between shots.Lighting
It was cloudy so the was somewhat filtered.Equipment
At the time, I was using my Nikon D-3100 and my 70-200mm. There was enough light so I didn't need my tripod.Inspiration
I'm from Colorado and have lived in Phoenix now for 10 years. I feel the pull of the mountains and fall colors every year and it's rare that I can time my vacation to make it home to visit family. I took a scenic drive with my sister on this day and the reflections caught my eye from the road.Editing
I usually just turn up the black, white and clarity in Lightroom. I did remove some random spots in the water and a hiking sign.In my camera bag
My equipment is pretty typical. I keep a lens cloth, a variety of filters, extra SD cards, remote trigger and band aids (because I've been know to trip and fall occasionally).Feedback
Set time aside for country drives while home visiting family and friends; especially places you visited as a child. It gives you a chance to see them with fresh eyes. Take time to set up the shot and pay attention to the composition and balance. In post-processing, notice what draws your eye. Are there leaves in the water that distract the eye? I find that I am not as objective with my own work so I ask my spouse who has no interest in photography to review my shot and ask him what he noticed first. He often points out items I never noticed but once he shows me, they are so obvious!!
