Location
This shot was taken at Monument Valley in Mohab, UtahTime
At Monument Valley the best time for me to take the photos is early morning or when the sun is setting. You can get a different array of colors depending on the on the light of the day.Lighting
I prefer the lighting at sunset it gives you more of a warm, rich color. The long shadow falls in the crevices of the monument as it lays across the mesas waiting for the evening to unfold it's ancient secrets of long ago.Equipment
This shot was on a SLT Sony a77 with a 18-200 lens. Aperture f/25.0, ISO 500, exposure 1/40Inspiration
What inspired me to take this photo was the rich history, stories and culture of the Native Americans. I also wanted to see where John Ford shot his background of the Monument for his western movies that were made famous. But most of all I saw a small puddle of water that reflected part of its tall background.Editing
I brought out more of the color and sharpness of the rocks in my post processing. In my camera bag
I always carry my Sony a 77 with my 18–200 mm lens, 70-300 mm lens, 55mm lens, filters, cleaning equipment, flash light, sunscreen, water, snacks and a raincoat in my camera backpack. This camera backpack is very convenient when you hike into areas where you need your hands free.Feedback
Always look at your surroundings not only the big picture but the little things that can give your picture more life character and a story that a person wants to dream of visiting or becoming a photographer.
