Behind The Lens

Location

This was a simple photo I took in my bedroom.

Time

This shot was taken late one night after I got home from work.

Lighting

Ever since I first saw examples, I fell in love with low key lighting and wanted to work with the high contrast low key style of shots. Controlling the camera settings you can block out all ambient light to control what is lit in the image. The lights were on in this picture but you can't tell.

Equipment

This photo I shot with a Canon t3i with a 18-55 kit lens set on a tripod, a flash set up off camera with a shoot through umbrella with the camera and flash triggered with a wireless remote.

Inspiration

I love the low key high contrast effect, controlling what is lit and what is hidden in shadows.

Editing

I did very little as far as post. In light room I adjusted the shadows and highlights but that's about all I did.

In my camera bag

My camera bag normally consist of my Canon t3i, Canon 50mm 1.8, Canon 18-55 kit lens, Canon 100-400L, Canon 24-105mm L, and Canon 100mm L macro.

Feedback

Best thing to do when trying to achieve a shot like this use low ISO (100) close down your aperture to f18 to f22 and use an off camera flash. Change the location of the flash as well as power to completely change the image results. Play with it and see what you can do.
