Location
I was driving to Denver International Airport and I came across this lovely field of sunflowers with the mountains far in the background. The colors just jumped out at me and made for a great photo.Time
This shot was taken late morning which brings out the true colors of the landscape.Lighting
Most shots like this are taken at sunrise or sunset, but I decided to take this in the late morning when the light highlighted the natural colors of the scene. Colorado has such beautiful blue skies that I love to shoot.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7100 with the 18-200 lens, handheld with no flash.Inspiration
I moved to Colorado partially for the natural beauty and great views. This scene exemplifies this with the bold colors.Editing
I typically pump up the contrast and tonal values which I did here. Colorado has such deep blue skies and then when you add the bright yellow of the sunflowers I got a pretty nice shot.In my camera bag
I typically use my Nikon D7100 with the 18-200. I also carry my Tokina 11-16 for wide angles and the SB700 speedlight when I need fill flash.Feedback
Any great landscape shot needs an interesting subject and good light. The natural light on this scene really highlights the bold colors of the sunflowers and the sky. I got close to one of the sunflowers and used a large aperture to blur the background.
