Location
This photo was taken at Moraine Lake, Alberta, Canada. It’s one of the most peaceful places that I have ever been to. The lake is to the right of the steps beyond some rocks. Moraine Lake is a brilliant turquoise blue due to the glacial silt deposits from the Canadian Rockies.Time
The time of day that this photo was taken was in the afternoon. It was an overcast day.Lighting
I enjoy shooting in natural light and this particular day, the lighting gave the photo a mysterious look. The clouds in front of the mountain reveal that it’s one of the highest altitudes in Canada. At the time I took the photo, I used this angle so that people would feel invited to walk up those steps when they look at the image.Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000 SLR camera with a Nikkor 70-300 zoom lens.Inspiration
The natural rock steps inspired me to take this photo and the cloud that was so close in front of the mountain. The natural lighting also gave this image its mysterious quality. It may have presented a different mood if it was a sunny day.Editing
I only smart sharpened it by about 30%. It didn’t really need any post-processing.In my camera bag
I have my Nikon D7000 with the lens that came with the kit and my favorite lens the Nikkor 70-300 mm zoom lens.Feedback
Be aware of the natural lighting when you’re outdoors as this will often make or break a shot. If you like a particular area, go at various times when the lighting is different in order to gauge the mood and how you want to portray it.
