I took this photo at Mary's Garden at the Catholic University of America. Although it is generally a place for spiritual reflection and meditation, certain parts about the garden have always looked like the garden came straight out of a fairy-tale storybook and I wanted to capture that.Time
This was taken sometime in the afternoon, right after a fresh new snowfall.Lighting
When it snows during the day in the Washington D.C. area, generally everything (including the sky) looks flat white lighting. I decided to focus more so on the elements in my background, angle, and content of the photo to make it more dramatic.Equipment
SONY CMOS DSC-R1, 10.3 MegapixelsInspiration
When it comes to photography, I love taking photos of people and nature - So I always try to combine the two whenever I can! What I hope to add to my photos is some fairytale, surreal aspect. I am always looking for new ways to learn and challenge myself. I had never shot in the snow before, so I thought it would be great to try something new by creating a fairytale image of a dancer in the snow.Editing
Some Photoshop work, including turning the image into black and white, increasing the contrast, and sharpening the image. In my camera bag
My camera is big and bulky. So I actually, normally take everyday photos with my cellphone. In college, I took a cellphone photography class, where I learned all about some photography techniques with a cellphone. If I see something that I come across during my day that inspires me, I take a cellphone picture of it and then use it as an idea later in a photoshoot session or a photoshop project.Feedback
The most important thing I have learned as a growing photographer is that a good photo is about the content. Color is important, but you'll know if your photograph is more powerful if it can create just as big of an impact in black and white as well. Also, stay away from stereotypical, cliche photos. Do something new and different that hasn't been done before. That's what will make your photo stick out from other photos and make it more memorable.
