This photograph was taken off the coast of Newport Beach in Southern California. I had gone whale watching when we came across a pod of about 1500 dolphins.Time
This was captured probably about 11:00 am.Lighting
It was a calm, sunny day with very very clear water. The sun was shining but not very harshly and created such beautiful blue water.Equipment
Canon 60D, 75-300 mm lens hand held. it was also my very first time using all manual controls (other than for focusing). I had been reading and learning all about manual controls and that day I decided to give it a chance and ended up with this perfect photograph of the momma dolphin and her newborn baby coming up for air as well as a series of photographs of dolphins mating. No flashes were used.Inspiration
I love photographing dolphins and whales and I was on a whale / dolphin watching trip when we came across a pod of about 1500 dolphins. It was an awesome sight with dolphins everywhere and calm, blue, clear waters. I got so many great shots on that day.Editing
The only post processing done in this is cropping the photo to zoom in and slightly adjusting exposure. I don't really believe in a lot of post processing / photoshopping. In my camera bag
Canon 60D body, 24mm, 50mm, 18-55 and 75-300mm canon lenses (the latter two being kit lenses) and a YN 560 IV and a YN 560 TX for Off Camera Flash if needed. I have never ever used the flash outside of my home studio yetFeedback
Be prepared and ready to shoot. You NEVER know what to expect and ALWAYS be ready. I take my camera EVERYWHERE I go: Whether it is to drop my daughter at school or to the doctor appt.
