Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on a small 3-day trip in Wisconsin looking for lighthouses along Lake Michigan. This is over by Sheboygan.

Time

This was around mid-afternoon and some clouds had rolled in on a breeze which helped to diffuse the brightness of the sun a little.

Lighting

I toned down highlights and added a little more shadow to show the contrasting colors as actually seen as it was somewhat washed out due to the time of day.

Equipment

I used a Canon PowerShot SX40 HS...just handheld and snapped off different shots, different angles, zoomed in and zoomed out.

Inspiration

We had walked out to the dunes and as I turned back to see the light house my husband was walking up the wood path and I thought this would be a great landscape shot of the lighthouse and my hubby....and I think it is. We were on a mission to find lighthouses.

Editing

Only thing I did was work with highlighting and shadow.

In my camera bag

Usually I have 3 lenses, tri-pod and camera. That's it.

Feedback

I have found when shooting during the day it really helps to have clouds in the sky to break up the solid blue of the sky. Also I will shoot in shade to help tone down the brightness. Having different layers, textures and colors can help bring out your main point of focus. Have a great background and foreground that helps frame your shot.
