Location
This photo was taken at Brooklands Motor Museum in Weybridge Surrey, they hold a 1940's day every year so there was plenty to photograph!Time
This was taken about 1pm, I had been wandering around looking for some unique way of capturing the day.Lighting
It was taken in daylight however the subject was in shadow due to a roof overhang, I couldn't use flash as I hadn't set it up on my camera and to be honest I would have lost the moment messing around setting up the shot, instead I kind of shot from the hip so to speak.Equipment
I took this on my Canon 7d, no tripods or flash as the subject was not in the mood for posing and I wanted a natural feel to the shot.Inspiration
I love taking pictures of people when they are unaware I am there although this little guy was instantly surrounded by people taking his picture. I stood back from the crowd and shot between members of the public using a 70-210 Canon Zoom.Editing
Post processing involved a little cropping and straightening of the image to get the brickwork on the left running along the crop line, converted to black and white in Photoshop CS5 with a little bit of sharpening as the subject is ever so slightly out of focus, there is also some noise on the image which I kept there to give it a vintage look.In my camera bag
I normally carry my Canon 7d and. canon 450d, the standard lens sits on the 450 while the 7d sports a lovely Canon 70-210 zoom. I also carry a Canon Speedlight, some remote triggers, spare batteries and a wallet full of CF and SD memory cards.Feedback
Try to catch the subject in a natural pose, this may involve several shots to get the final image, I find the best way is using the zoom lens to distance yourself and letting the subject go about their business (whatever that may be)! I normally shoot in AV mode, this gives me the flexibility to control ISO and shutter speed, in this shot I recall spinning the dials whilst shooting as it was more important to capture the shot than get all the settings bang on.
