This photo was taken in Costa Rica, March 2014, my favorite place to escape from the long Canadian winter. My son is living in Costa Rica for a couple of years now, so one more reason to go there!Time
I took this photo March 4, 2014, shortly before noon when the heat made me hide under the trees that are aligned along the beach. I had my camera with me just in case!Lighting
I didn't have much time to think about the lighting, since all I wanted was to capture the cute squirrel so preoccupied with her food.Equipment
I was using my camera NIKON D7000, with my beginner zoom lense 18-300mm f/3.5-5.6. No flash.Inspiration
I'm always coming from Costa Rica with many photos of the wild life. I'm trying to find and explore quiet places very early in the morning or afternoon when the heat is almost unbearable and the iguanas are out.Editing
For this shot I had first of all to crop the image. Shooting from under the tree I've got the squirrel with all the body parts that I didn't want to show. (for his privacy!) Next I have rotate the image to create the illusion of the squirrel sitting at the bar. For the rest...I had enhanced shadows and highlights. I'm not a pro and I have learned to post-process by myself. Usually I'm making many copies with different versions until there is one that I like.In my camera bag
My bag contains all I have: my camera, my flash, the two lenses that I have one for zoom and the other one for macro and extra batteries. (it's a backpack!)Feedback
Costa Rica is an awesome destination for the wild life lovers. Iguanas, monkeys, squirrels, birds and butterflies can be seen everywhere, even in the resorts, that usually are situated near national parks. Once there, the rest is just patience for capturing the right moment.
