Behind The Lens

Location

Birmingham, Alabama at the Clubhouse on Highland, a beautiful arts and craft style home built in 1910.

Time

This photo was taken in the early afternoon moments before the firsts guests began to arrive for the wedding. The bride sat down to collect her thoughts before making her entrance.

Lighting

The bride was seated in front of a small window so the light shining in behind her created striking contrast and shadow.

Equipment

Canon 7D 50mm 1.4

Inspiration

lighting and timing and a moment to be remembered.

Editing

I process my photographs using Lightroom most of the time. For this particular image I converted it to black and white in post processing

In my camera bag

Canon 5D Mark II. 50mm 1.4, 200mm L2.8, 17-40mm f/4

Feedback

When shooting backlit window light portraits I find that using spot metering is effective to get good exposure. I prefer using natural light and in this particular image it gave the image a softer look but maintains the powerful contrast between light and dark.
