I took this photo at the Cocoa Beach Pier in Cocoa Beach, Florida.Time
This shot was taken at sunrise in October.Lighting
You can almost never go wrong with a sunrise in Florida. Even in relatively boring, cloudless sky the light is always quite beautiful.Equipment
I used a Canon 7D with a Canon EF-S 10-22 lens on a Benro tripod.Inspiration
It wasn't so much that I was inspired to take this particular photo as much as I was inspired to get out there and photography something. I am not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination but I love photography and the beach is so beautiful in the morning.Editing
All of my post processing on this image was done in Lightroom and involved adding a graduated filter to the sky and making some small color adjustments. In my camera bag
Everywhere else in life I have always been a "pack everything but the kitchen sink" type of person. However, when I head out to photograph something I really try to only bring with me the things I know I will be using. The only camera body I own right now is my Canon 7D, so it is definitely in my bag. For landscapes I usually pack my Canon EF-S 10-22 and my Canon EF 28-135. If I am going to be shooting wildlife I bring my Tamron 150-600...which is a beast but I absolutely love it. My little arms can only keep that lens steady for a couple shots so I usually have to bring a monopod with me just to help out with the weight.Feedback
As an amateur, the best advice I could give is to prepare ahead of time for what you are going to shoot. I knew I was going to the beach to shoot the sunrise, so I set up my camera and packed all my gear up the night before. Make sure you leave enough time to get set up once you get to your location. I was set up 30 minutes prior to sunrise, however I was on the other side of the pier and realized pretty quick it was the wrong side to be on and had to move. If I hadn't gotten there early enough to scope out the area I probably would have missed the shot completely. I shot this in aperture priority (AV on Cannon) at f22 to get the starburst effect and because I was on a tripod I set the ISO at 100.
