Location
This is in one of my favorite places to hike in California. After a grueling, two-day hike to reach the lake, a heavy snowstorm rolled in as we set up camp. The approaching storm had cleared out the other campers because it was suppose to be a super heavy snow but we had packed in preparation.Time
Thousand Island lake is normally not a peaceful place being a major intersection of the John Muir Trail. The storm hit us with over a foot of snow but the morning was calm and clear. My friend luckily woke me before the sunrise to take in the incredible moment the sun illuminated the mountains. The calmness of the lake cast a mirror image. The ensuing sunrise was as close to a spiritual moment I've had hiking. My friend and I both sat in silence watching the day break.Lighting
