Location
This photo was taken near our friends summer hacienda in a mountainous rural area of Mexico. While my wife and her friend were catching up on things, I did what I love the most- taking a walk with my camera and opening myself to possibilities.Time
I don’t recall the time of day, but I would venture mid afternoonLighting
First off I don’t believe in destroying or moving any life, whether plant, insect or animal to get a shot. I only had a small point and shot camera at the time with a built in flash. It fit underneath the mushroom, but required flash to even it out against the sky. By itself the flash was too bright, so I wet the flash ( with saliva) and “ pasted” a small section of a Kleenex tissue to it. That softened the light just enough to light up the bottom of the mushroomEquipment
Just a small 8 MP canon point and shoot, hand held. Because I couldn’t see the screen and focusing, I had to take several shots until I got one framed and in focus as I wished.Inspiration
That was the biggest damn mushroom ever! Who wouldn’t want to shoot it?Editing
Just some minor cropping and exposure adjustments. In my camera bag
I now have a canon 5D III, 70-200 F2.8 II,USM , 24-105 F4 and 16-35 F-4. Manfrotto 055xProb tripod with a Siri ballheadFeedback
Be aware if your surroundings! With open eyes and spirit, things will present themselves to you. Keeping an eye out for a good background is as important as your main subject I like to meditate before leaving for a nature shoot. It’s a good remedy for shaking hands too!
