I like the light going through the clouds. Sunsets are always lovely.Equipment
An SLR body and one of my favorite lenses, the Canon 100mm 2.8.Inspiration
It was the end of the day. I had just taken a plane from Phuket, a long cab ride on Koh Samui, and extremely long catamaran ride to get to Koh Tao. Exhausted, I met some people at the hostel (two Germans, a Swede and a Kiwi) where I was staying and went to dinner at a restaurant by the beach. That's when I saw this view, right from our table no less -- a gorgeous sunset, tourists wrapping up tours on boats, fishermen docking and life at the immediate sea closing for the night. I don't even remember exactly what I ate (masaman curry?), all I did was look at the sunset. The next day, I returned to the same place for dinner at the same time, camera in hand. That's when I snapped this photo.Editing
Enhanced contrast and upped saturation a bit.In my camera bag
I'm more of a video maker than a photographer, so I'm more of a hobbyist than a professional. I carry around a DX-1 and a 14mm lumix lens on it. I like wides and the set up looks innocuous, so I can get pretty close without people really noticing.Feedback
Shooting against a coast that's on the same side as the sunset will yield these results. Shoot with a telephoto lens to get less-cluttered shots. A little off topic, but generally I like to shoot close-ups with wide lenses and wide shots with telephoto lenses whenever I can.
