Location
I actually took this photo way back when on a high school field trip to the Minnesota Zoo. It was one of the first times using my dSLR camera and really proved to me that photography was something I was really interested in doing.Time
It was midday and taken inside the zoo at the cheetah enclosure. I remember the cheetah sitting against the window and I just went right up to it and it stared right at me so that's when I snapped the picture!Lighting
The lighting was pretty terrible inside the zoo so I shot on manual in order to get the softer and darker background as compared to the cheetah's eye and face. I think it's important to note that although the lighting may not always be perfect, you still can get a great shot if you know how to use your camera.Equipment
At the time I was using a Nikon D3100 with the 18-55 kit lens because that was all I had!Inspiration
I went in to the field trip wanting to get to know my camera better and to try to make it so the animals didn't look like they were in a zoo. So, I focused in more on the animals faces and tried to stray away from showing any fences or enclosures.Editing
The only post processing on this pictures was simple exposure and contrast adjustments, otherwise no!In my camera bag
Well now that I have a little more experience as a photographer my camera bag has my Nikon d750, a 24-70 lens, and 70-200 lens. I also have a tripod, flash, extra batteries (of course), and my Go Pro Hero 4 Black in case I want some different types of shots.Feedback
For this picture, if you're trying to take pictures of animals I would suggest just taking a moment to look at the animal and try to get to know its movements before taking a picture. Try to predict when it will look towards you or what sounds make its ears go up, then you will be able to tell exactly when to click the shutter button.
