Behind The Lens

Location

I took the photo on the way home from our annual family fishing trip in Western Australia, along the road between Springvale Station and Mable Downs on the Great Northern Hwy. yes I shot this from out the window of a moving vehicle doing about 90km/h. Panning put to the test.

Time

this was taken on the 23rd of September 2014 at 6:38pm Northern Territory time, 5:08 WA time.

Lighting

the natural lighting from the evening setting sun was a rich golden orange, all i wanted to do was to capture the pure serenity of nature in the rural outback.

Equipment

This was shot with a Nikon D7100 and a 55-200mm f/4-5.6 lense that came in a kit with my old Nikon D3100.

Inspiration

this photo was taken as a person challenge and to put the auto focus on the new camera to the test, I have always loved landscape photography and being stuck in a car for 3 days I decided to be creative.

Editing

the post-processing for this photo was toning down the highlights as the sun was a bit bright and drew the focus away from the foreground and the windmill.

In my camera bag

The Nikon D7100 with a Tamron 16-300mm f/3.5-6.3 lens, remote and spare battery is all I carry now days in a water proof bag. 90 percent of my photos are action or whilst out in the bush on a hunt so a tripod isn't practical to take along.

Feedback

giving advice is a hard one, if I see it and like it I'll shoot it, knowing your equipment and what settings will deliver what results are a must, don't be afraid of trial and error, that's how we learn. Most of all have fun.
