Behind The Lens

Location

On the coast near our campsite in Normandy France ...

Time

Early evening around dusk...

Lighting

This was a wonderful summer evening in June as the sun was disappearing quickly over the horizon...so I had to move fast and take a number of shots using bracketing exposures.

Equipment

A Canon Eos 550D ...with anti flare hood.

Inspiration

My son is a member of a WWII living history 're-enacting group' portraying the 82nd American Airborne 505th. We were following th 70th anniversary of the D-day landings and I was trying to catch a memorial type atmosphere as a tribute to the brave who fell during the conflict.

Editing

Using Canon's photo editing software I lowered the exposure...and brought up the saturation level.

In my camera bag

I travel light ...with a Canon Eos 550D...this is especially good in low light levels...a 50mm lens...spare battery and memory card.

Feedback

I'm always looking at how the final result could look to the viewer post editing...I think about colour, light and composition...especially any interesting angles...the abstract....perspectives...and try to capture something a bit different.
