Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken outdoors in a backyard in South Minneapolis. Domino belongs to an old friend. I love photographing animals and playing with depth of field. Getting Domino to sit or stand still was the easy part, focusing on the nose was hardest part.

Time

Early afternoon. It was bright out.

Lighting

I love shooting outdoors. Especially on cloudier days.

Equipment

Nikon D300, nothing too fancy.

Inspiration

Dog noses are so unique. Most people focus on the eyes. It's fun to try to capture their other quirky features.

Editing

I developed RAW (Adobe Bridge), edited in Photoshop. Created the contrast with a Gradient Map. Blurred out the background a bit more to bring the focus completely to the nose.

In my camera bag

It depends on the day. Sometimes I'll bring my full camera backpack with a variety of 5 lenses. The camera I generally shoot with is my Nikon D750. Before that, it was the Nikon D300.

Feedback

Animals require patience. But they can be so fun!
