Location
This photo was taken on a drive through the backroads in the Mono Lake area of California.Time
It was a cloudy, cool day and this abandoned shack stood relatively alone in an open field with the cloud covered mountains in the background. I was surprised I was able to capture the colors and depth without much equipment. It was taken in September 2014, I believe in the later afternoon.Lighting
I liked the eerie feeling that the cloudiness provided. But I later come to enjoy the shack's colors set against the brush that surrounds it. There's a nice juxtaposition of colors that seem to be complemented by the cloudiness of the day.Equipment
This was taken with my Canon EOS REBEL T5i; Aperture f/5.6?ISO 100?Shutter 1/160?Inspiration
We were driving by on the shack on a back road. I have had an interest in forgotten and abandoned subjects that tell a bit of a story about what the area may have been like. I didn't anticipate running across this lonely little shack, but I'm glad I did.Editing
Very little processing was done to the photo, just some adjustments to highlight and bring out the colors of the shack itself. In my camera bag
My Canon Rebel, one Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 wide angle zoom lens, and a EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. I have other lenses that I pack for special trips. But these are just the basics.Feedback
Get off the beaten path, stop and wander around. This little shack could be seen from a distance, but I needed to explore the area a bit to find the composition that I wanted.
