Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken at a car show at the OC Fairgrounds here in Costa Mesa, CA. It was a charity benefit; the cars ranged from 50's Chevy's to Mustangs to older model Fords (we're talking 1930)...the care and love that went into restoring these cars was impressive.

Time

It was about 2, 2:30 pm...it was inside one of the exhibit halls, which allowed me to get more details of the car itself.

Lighting

It was much better inside as the bright California sun made it hard to show the details I was trying to show. For instance, the grill on this beauty was a work of art in itself. Mercifully it was inside so the bright light wouldn't take away from the shot.

Equipment

I use a Fuji Film Finepix S25000 digital camera with a 10x optical zoom lens.

Inspiration

I like details in everything I shoot, and I've always wanted a great closeup shot of a car like this. I just crouched down, took the picture, and I was thrilled to see the end result.

Editing

No photo processing was done...just let the light and the subject matter speak for itself.

In my camera bag

Just the Fuji Finepix, extra batteries, a polarizing and UV lens...that's about it.

Feedback

Be patient at car shows like these...everyone is trying to get a great shot too with cameras and phones. Once you see your opportunity, get in there and grab the shot before someone else does. Go for the indoor pictures. Outside the sun can be very bright, and it doesn't really bring out the great work these people do.
