I shot with just the, I think, 15 _55mm Canon zoom lens it came with. I have since moved to a Nikon as the Rebel began having problems.

Location
The photo was taken at the cruise ship docks in the Turks and Caicos Islands.Time
I shot this in the afternoon returning to the ship, full sun.Lighting
At the time of the picture, the sun was out to the left of the ship. As one could see in the image there were clouds, but the sun was out from behind them.Equipment
Cannon Rebel EOS. I used a Cannon zoom lens, 28-80. It was on 28.Inspiration
AsI approached the ship, I had noticed the "drama" of the bow of the ship caught my eye. That and the lines coming to the dock made, for me anyway, an interesting shot.Editing
This was not a an HDR shot. I don't shoot RAW. I usually use sometimes up to three different software programs to manipulate photos. I edited the contrast and sharpness using Photo Editor X. Then switched to Picasa using the "details" function to adjust the sharpness and structure. Followed that by playing with the "drama" function for the darkening of the colors. In my camera bag
Often, not very much. The camera a short zoom and a long zoom. Extra batteries. If I go out at night to shoot, the tripod goes with me.Feedback
I'm no expert shooter, just a hack who has enjoyed photos ever since I was a kid and I saw my dad's slides he took in the 1930's and later. Now the post-processing had opened up the ability to "make" art, sometimes out of not to great photos. This, I felt was a pretty good one to start with. Keep shooting is the best suggestion and yes... It's been suggested time and time again, but it is true. Now though, spend sometime just playing with your software at hand with a photo. If you like what it looks like, save it, but don't stop there. Keep tweaking!
