I like the symmetry and the way it draws my eye to the birds head. It's a bit hypnotic

Behind The Lens

Location

I was on a family day trip to a local stately home in Scotland. It was a beautiful spring day and there were numerous Peacocks strutting around during trying to display at anything that moved.

Time

This was shot around midday

Lighting

I didn't use any artifical lighting for this but it was a really sunny day and the light as quite harsh.

Equipment

This was shot handheld with a Nikon d3100 with a Tamron 70 300 zoom lens

Inspiration

As the peacocks were already displaying I was attempting to get close enough to capture the whole bird with the Stately home in the background. As it turned out there were too many people around and I couldn't get the shot I was after

Editing

Because I couldn't get the shot I was looking for I had to heavily crop the image to remove all the people in the background and then I used photoshop to clone out grass and stray pieces of background from between the feathers. I finished off boosting the contrast and colours to try and draw the viewers eye towards the bird itself

In my camera bag

Now I carry a Nikon d7100 with a nikkor 38mm 1.8 almost permanently attached. I also have a sigma 18 300 lens which is a great as a general walkaround

Feedback

I couldn't get close enough to the bird to get the shot so I had to compromise on that and look at the photo in post. There can be a decent photograph hidden in plain sight of an otherwise plain photograph. Just a bit of imagination and some post work can work well
