Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo was just outside my house. I am new with photography and was trying different things and I thought the purple really stuck out from the green/

Time

This photo was taken in the evening around 6 pm in August.

Lighting

I really wanted to take some pictures as the sun was setting because I really like the "haze" that surrounds everything during the summer evenings. I thought that the haze would give the pictures that I took had a softer look to them. In this picture the sun was just over my right shoulder and was softly lighting at my daughters face

Equipment

I used a Cannon T2i with my 18-55mm lens.

Inspiration

I was taking pictures of my daughter in a field around our home. The sun was setting and I really liked the look of the pictures that I was taking. The field had very soft shades of green and beige and as we were walking back to our home, I noticed the colours of the plants along side of the road. The sun was setting and our light was going fast so I had my daughter run up and sit down as quickly as she could. I only had time to take this picture because I was standing in the middle of the road and a car was coming.

Editing

I normally do some processing to my pictures but in this case I only cropped the outside edges.

In my camera bag

I normally only run with my cannon 18-55mm lens, my 70-200mm and an extra battery,(well that and a pack of gum). I do have a tripod that I try to carry if I make plans to take photos, but otherwise I just always carry my bag for those spur of the moment shots.

Feedback

A lot of my pictures are spur of the moment pictures, but in saying that I do try to pay attention to the lighting/way things look at different times of the day. I have found that if you would like a soft looking natural picture the evening sun is better. I of course love the summer evening sun always seems to turn to an orange colour giving off a softer glow. I also have had some great pictures taken with the very early morning sun. The lighting is always best just as the sun peaks above the horizon, but I find these harder to get as I am not a morning person!
