The photo was taken at the Shaw-Kemp Ranch near Weatherford, Texas. We were driving the area photographing the wildflower fields. Just inside the gate to the ranch I saw the cross on a small hill. It was on of those "stop the car!" moments.Time
This is one of my all time favorite photographs. We had been out photographing wildflower fields in the area. Around 11:am we took the road which led to the Shaw Kemp Ranch. I saw the cross standing tall on the small hill surrounded by the old buck board and wildflowers. The image was all I hoped for.Lighting
The lighting is all natural light. Right time + right place = a picture worthy of a frameEquipment
Used a handheld Cannon EOS automaticInspiration
Wildflower fields are a passion of mine to capture through the lens. When I find good background to accent their beauty it becomes a magical moment. This was taken in early April the Saturday before Easter which made this scene even more important to capture through the lens.Editing
I had to adjust the sky in post processing as the white balance washed it out. I also cropped it slightly to center the cross as the main visual focal point. In my camera bag
I am a novice photographer. An eye injury makes it necessary to forgo a DSLR until I get used to monovision. I use a Cannon SX60 to help compensate. This has a powerful built in zoom and macro capability to compensate for not being able to use the DSLR for a time. A good subject and lighting can be captured using even the most basic equipment. I look for images that are meaningful to m and do my best to capture the moment.Feedback
Be willing to travel the back roads. The roads less traveled produce some of the best images. Keep your eyes open for something that grabs your attention. Take several shots and angles. Do some research before you head out if possible - postings on web sites and social media often help direct you to an area you hadn't thought of. Whether you photograph images for a living or a hobby - relax, be patient, and have fun.
