Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo by a small pond in the woods by my house in Massachusetts. I was helping my brother with his senior portraits and I decided to take a little break from the normal to have some fun with him.

Time

It was mid-afternoon like 2-3ish, which is usually not my favorite time to shoot but I think it turned out quite well considering.

Lighting

It was rather harsh sunlight, but I had him stand in the shade of a tree so I could capture the details of his face better.

Equipment

This was shot with a Canon Rebel t4i and no other equipment was used.

Inspiration

My brother. He has such a silly side of him that he never shows and I wanted to freeze that in this photo.

Editing

Yes, I edited and of course added the greyscale in Lightroom. I bumped up the contrast and sharpness to really show the detail in his face.

In my camera bag

I usually have my camera, lens cleaner, my telephoto lens, macro lens, spare memory cards and batteries and my crystal ball, because I am really into crystal ball photography right now.

Feedback

Faster shutter speeds aren't usually used for portraits, but I used one on this photo because I didn't want to miss any of his microexpressions. Give it a whirl; the best part of rules is breaking them!
